God Is The Source of Our Strength
With the coming of the judgment, with the failing of life, and with the passing of days, we seek and need strength which can only be found in Jehovah God! We view the statement of David and find that he pointed to God for the strength needed. “The LORD is my light, and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psa.27:1). “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” (Psa. 73:26). There are indeed days that are perilous, heartaches abound, sufferings are real, disappointments are routine. I am in search for strength to face and overcome these days of trial. Shall we find this strength through the pleasures of society? Shall we find it by following our own selfish desires? Can the enemies of righteousness provide mankind with the desired strength? The answer is a resounding NO!
Friends, may it be made clear, and may it be fully understood, that from the God of Heaven, we have offered and can find the strength we must have! Why do we make such a statement? Because He is the God of power. He is the God Almighty. Therefore, He is the great source of strength for our faith. Please tell me, what strength does a person have when he has no faith? He is left weak, and his life will come to rest in the place of great disorder and confusion. Without the strength we may have from God, one is left without a firm foundation. However, to have this strength, our faith is made strong, and will come by our going to the Bible and feasting upon its divine truths! We have this affirmed by the apostle Paul. “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom.10:17). Throughout Holy Writ this message or source of strength is found. In fact Paul declared to the people at Ephesus for them to have this strength to enable them in fighting off the wiles of the evil one. “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” (Eph.6:16).
Persecutions always call for great strength. The apostle Peter encouraged those to whom he is inspired to write that they will need strength to face and to bear up under the persecutions they will face. There will come to them continued hardships as they live a life of righteousness. Peter pointed them to God from whom all blessings flow. “Cast all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” (1 Pet.5:7). This source of strength is not just for those at ease in Zion. Peter said: “The word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the Gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Pet.1:25).
