The Need to Weep

God made man in His own image and after His own likeness! God gave man the ability to weep. “Blessed are they that mourn.” (Matt.5:4). “A time to weep, and a time to laugh.” (Eccl.3:4). “Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them with them  that  weep.” (Rom.12:15). However, this must never be viewed as a sign of weakness. Jesus wept over the condition of Jerusalem, and when His friend Lazarus died.  The question  for us to consider is;  What are the things we need to weep over today?

Weep Over Division. Division means someone has gone astray. Paul wrote, “speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you.” (1 Cor.1:10). “I marvel that  ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another Gospel.” (Gal.1:6). Paul warned about those who would lead others astray, and did so weeping. “For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ.” (Phil.3:18).

Weep Over The Lost.  The  price they are paying for their life style of sinful actions, and of which will cause them to be lost, is very, very high! Are we not told in the Scriptures that “the wages of sin is death.” (Rom.6:23)?  “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.” (2 Thess.1:9). For too many the lost among us are like a “cracked wind-shield”, we just look beyond it. We pay little to no attention to the matter. We need to weep and change!

Weep Over Unfaithfulness. This is a very heavy burden we have hung around the neck of the church. What is so sad, not many seem to be concerned . God speaks of the unfaithful like this: “The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” (2 Pet.2:22). Let us have more weeping brethren.

Weep Over Lukewarmness. This is the attitude,  “I can take it or leave it”. Such an attitude really does great harm to the progress of the Lord’s church. Their attendance  is rare, their encouragement is stale, and their abilities go unused. They care not for the elders admonition, the preachers sermons, nor the members prayers. However, the Lord has a word for the lukewarm. “Because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” (Rev.3:16).
