The Great Physician

In many places and many times, the Bible declares that man is in need of salvation from sin. The sin that man must be saved from is described in many ways. It is sometimes spoken  of  as  disease. The prophet of old said that Christ  would be “wounded for our transgression, bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.” (Isa.53:5). Jesus himself said, “They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick.” (Mk.2:17). It was noticed that the world had a sin sick heart, and Jesus came and died upon the cross that man’s heart might be made whole! Please take note Acts 8:18-22, and there you will see that the heart of one called Simon had to be addressed.

If a person is sick with some disease today, there are a few things that must be done if he is to get well. He must first understand that he is sick. No one will seek help if they do not believe they are in need of help. When they notice their condition, they will then seek the help and go to a doctor. The physician will note the condition and give instructions what the person must do. The sick not only must realize his or her condition, and go to the doctor, but he must obey the doctor’s instructions. When that is done he will enjoy health again.

The person in sin must first know he is in sin. There is no hope for those who do not realize their lost condition. The Pharisees were righteous in their own eyes and therefore felt no need of salvation. There is nothing Jesus can do for an individual who is self-righteous. The work of every preacher and every class teacher is to point out sin and make them realize their need of a Saviour! The Great Physician will note the condition and will instruct what must be done to enjoy salvation. If you will not listen and obey him, you will never be saved. He has said to all that they must believe (Heb.11:6). They must repent (Lk.13:3,5). They must confess their faith in him (Matt.10:32). They must be baptized into him (Gal.3:27). However, Jesus noted some that their “hearts were waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.” (Matt.13:15). Let not another day pass and you remain in your sins, but turn to Him in obedience; for he is The Great Physician!!
