Let Us Glorify God

O the greatness we have placed  before us in living for God who always blesses us!  Our life is spent for the purpose of glorying Him. When we look into the Bible, and view life we are put in awe of the love, goodness, and care of God our Heavenly Father. We  also find that our life in glorying  Him is done on  a daily  basis.  However, we wonder, how man who has such a poor taste in goodness, a heart often hard as a rock, eyes filled with selfish pride, ears closed to His truths, feet often noted leaving the path of righteousness, a life filled with misery, has too much ungodliness, is able to glorify God.  We  conclude  therefore,  that  one  must   get  in  step  with  God  by  obeying  His  commands. Then, and only then, can we glorify Him. David said, “I will praise Thee, O LORD God, with all my heart: and I will glorify Thy name for evermore.”  (Psa.86:12). Paul was inspired to write along this same line. “Whether therefore to eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor.10:31). We cannot view this verse and conclude that we can  do  just  anything  to the glory of God.  Everything  that  is  to  be  done must be according to the teaching of the Bible. How, then, do we glorify God?

We glorify God through the church! This is made clear by Paul writing to the church at Ephesus. “Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages.” (Eph.3:21). We must again take the work of the church serious. Then, we will have the church being “the pillar and ground of the truth.” (1 Tim.3:15). No one can glorify God that is not a member of His church! Nevertheless, we are sad to notice that some  members  have  gone  their  own  way  of  “philosophy  and  vain deceit, after rudiments  of  the  world, and  not  after Christ.” (Col.2:8). They may think they are glorifying God,  but they will find out that “there is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”  (Prov.14:12).

We glorify God by letting our light shine. Jesus plainly stated: “Ye are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven.” (Matt.5:14,16). Friends, our light is shining when we worship Him. Our hearts are made to hurt by noting how some void the light they are, and not have it to shine by not attending as God has commanded. They have too many bushels to their disposal, and of which they use quite regularly in covering their light.  It  may  be  the  bushel of  indifference, or selfish  interest.  Nevertheless, their influence is covered.  Remove the bushel, for only then will we be able to glorify God!
