You Can Depend On God
More times than one do we find in the Bible man standing in great need, and not able to do anything about it on his own and God coming to his rescue. As the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness, making their way to the promised land, they found themselves needing help and receiving it from God. They had not been gone long from Egypt when they became hungry, and they needed to see; as well as we today that everyone at all times must depend upon God! Too often we have to be denied some blessing, or experience some real need in life before we can appreciate the love, care, promises, and blessings of God. Nevertheless, we must learn to depend on Him. It is difficult for some to learn that dependence in the time of prosperity. Those who have little or no spirituality see little need of praying for daily bread as long as they “fare Sumptuously every day”. (Lk.16:19). However, let death or some serious sickness come knocking on their door, then see what their fancy life style will do for them. They will know that it is God they must depend on, in that situation and all others.
It would seem that the children of Israel would be most thankful for their deliverance from bondage in Egypt, and be able to show gratitude and enable them to accept any and all hardships they may be called upon to endure while wandering in the wilderness. However, their faith soon waned, wishing to be back in Egypt. O foolish Israel! We watch them as they go onward murmuring and complaining each step they take. Then, I am made to wonder how different they were than we are today in our struggles and battles of life. Do we not walk the same path of complaining and showing our dissatisfaction? O foolish Christians!
Those who murmured, complained, and refused to love, serve and depend on God died in the wilderness. They never made it to the promised land. The lesson is very obvious. If we keep murmuring and refusing to love, serve and depend on God, we will never make it to Heaven. “Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” (Heb.4:11). “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matt.6:33). Friends, we must never be afraid of our dependence upon God, and keep in mind that He said: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” (Heb.13:5). With His promises and assurance placed before us, we are now able to “walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Cor.5:7). May we tell the world . . . You Can Depend On God!
