The Creation
The Bible clearly requires mankind to believe that God created the universe out of nothing. This is what is brought out at the very beginning of God’s instructions to man. “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen.1:1). The phrase “the heaven and the earth” includes the entire universe. David stated that “by the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth” “For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast” (Psa.33:6,9). In the New Testament we find John, by inspiration giving evidence of the same. “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not anything made that was made” (Jno.1:3). The phrase “all things” is once again referring to the entire universe. “God that made the world and all things therein, seeing He is Lord of heaven and earth…” (Acts 17:24). Paul establishes this truth quite explicit when he said that all the parts of the universe, both visible and invisible things were created by the Lord God. “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible. . .all things were created by Him and for Him” (Col.1:16). Then John writes, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created” (Rev.4:11).
The fact that God created the heaven and the earth and everything in them is affirmed a good number of times in the New Testament. “. . . .Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is” (Acts 4:24). When Paul was in the city of Athens and speaking to the doubters there, he identifies the true and living God as the “God that made the world and all things therein,. . .and He giveth to all life, and breath, and all things” (Acts 17:24-25).
God created the entire universe out of nothing, and there is no matter in the universe that is eternal. All that we see; the mountains, the oceans, the stars, the earth itself, every blade of grass, every leaf of the trees, and every flower with its beauty, and mankind,. . . .all came into existence when God created them. On top of all that, they all were created full grown! There was a time when they did not exist. What a glorious and wonderful world God has created for us to live in, and have full enjoyment! However, may we always remember that it is given to us to use for His praise, and honor by always doing good or righteousness. We arise each day giving thanks to God for The Creation!
