The Broad Way
In the great sermon on the mount Jesus stated that there are but two ways for mankind to travel. One is the “broad way” and it leads to one place, and the other way is the “narrow way” and it leads to a different place. The broad way will take you to everlasting destruction. That is the devil’s way. The narrow will lead you to Heaven, and that is God’s way. Jesus made a startling announcement about the one leading to destruction when He said “many there be which go in thereat.” (Matt.7:13). We are pressed to ask, Why would one make such a choice? Consider:
Because they follow the way of error. Over and over the Bible warns mankind against such. It is amazing how many have closed their ears and minds to the warnings of God. Nevertheless it is still there. “But there were false prophets also among the people even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways.” (1 Pet.2:1-2). Truly, a very bad choice.
Because they are so wrapped up in this world or society, it pushes them to enjoy the praise of mankind more than the praise of God. They may speak of going to Heaven, and sing of the promise land, but they are given to such worldly matters, and which all such are found only on the “broad way”. A life of drugs, drinking, gambling, cursing, immodesty, and the such like will find a stiff warning from the apostle Paul. “They which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Gal.5:21). Even before Paul wrote this, Jesus made this statement: “except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” (Lk.13:3).
Because they fail to consider seriously Christ and His commands, has them remaining on the way described as “Broad”. Their eyes are upon, and the pattern they wish to follow is someone of the same mind-set. Such a mind-set thinks of the commands of Christ as being out of touch with today’s world and would make them old fashioned. Many there are who want to go the Heaven, and complete their obedience to Christ and His commands to have faith, to repent, confess their faith in Christ, and to be baptized into Christ. They want to be noticed as members of the church, BUT, the commitment commanded by the Lord in following Him as a child of God is something they wish to side-step, and avoid all together. That, friends, is a very bad choice!
