Are
You In Agreement With God?
The
Bible declares in Amos 3:3 that we must be in agreement with God, or else we
can not walk together, or have fellowship.
John declared the same thing. (1 Jno.1:7). The verses read, “Can two walk together, except they
be agreed?” and “If we walk in the light as he is
in the light, we have fellowship one with another.” Therefore, when we walk with God, we must have the
same purpose that God has. Two cannot walk together and accomplish
the same goal unless their actions are
harmonious. Two or more people may have some activities, but they may all be going different
directions. Just because we are active, and with good intent, does not mean
there is unity. Jesus pointed to some like this and said, “Not every one
that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom
of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matt.7:21). All of our actions must be pointed in the
direction that God points. We are weak and fallible, but God is all wise and infallible. We understand that
if we are going to walk with him, we must walk in harmony with His
commandments.
Why are there so many in disagreement with God, and
making it impossible for the two to walk in harmony? I believe for one thing, and correct to
state, that many are too busy with the affairs of this world, and have laid
aside the commandments of God. It is right, and even necessary, for people to
be engaged in matters so a living can be made for the family. If one refuses to
care for his own family, “he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an
infidel.” (1 Tim.5:8). Nevertheless, I find a large number have become so
engrossed in the affairs of life that they forget God. Then, the first thing
you know they have little to no interest
in the work of the church. They come to worship only when they want to
and their wants and fun are not interrupted. Members of the Lord’s church are
now walking in a different direction than God because of social engagements. Pressure is
put upon them to miss worship or Bible study times in order that they may go
with their crowd to one place or another. Not thinking that such is putting
them in odds with God. Are these people involved with personal work, helping with the
Lord’s Table, visiting the sick, having the youth over for a devotional, bear stuffing, and
men’s business meeting? An examination of your Christian character is in order,
and there is a need for you to make some changes today if you are not in
agreement with God. “Consecrate me now to thy service Lord, By the power of
grace divine; Let my soul look up with a steadfast hope, And my will be lost in
Thine.” The words of this song must
be real!
